Capacity building of Border Police in field of dog handling

Geographic scope
To support border management capacities of Moldova in the area of dog handling and approximate them with standards of the Member States of the EU

Objectives
To increase theoretical knowledge and practical skills of K-9 figurants regarding the service dog training methods and tools.
To support capacity building of dog handlers service.

Indicators/Outcomes
K-9 figurants acquired knowledge on the latest methods in the service dog training.
BP dog handling service received equipment for optimal K-9 figurants training conditions.

Main activities
1. Three theoretical and practical workshops were conducted in the Republic of Moldova for K-9 figurants of the General Inspectorate of Border Police with the participation of two experts from the Dog Handling Service Centre of the State Border Guard College of Latvia. In total, 12 figurants (10 from Moldova and 2 from Georgia) were trained on the topics related to the EU training methodology of service dogs. Workshops were preceded by a kick-off meeting of the action manager with relevant stakeholders in the partner country;
2. Conducting of a training session for K-9 figurants of the General Inspectorate of Border Police of Moldova at the Dog Handling Centre of the State Border Guard College of Latvia. K-9 figurants of the General Inspectorate of Border Police of Moldova were introduced to the Latvian experience of training of figurants and service dogs, preparation of training modules, organization of evaluation.
3. Three practical workshop for K-9 figurants of the General Inspectorate of Border Police and Latvian State Border Guard College, carried out in Georgia;
4. Procurement of specialised equipment for ensuring training, including the following items: 4 laptops, protection suits, protection sleeves for arms and legs, motivation objects, biting pillows, whips with leather grip.

Monitoring/Evaluation
If the Contracting Authority carries out an interim or ex post evaluation or a monitoring mission, the Coordinator shall undertake to provide it and/or the persons authorised by it with any document or information which will assist with the evaluation or monitoring mission, and grant them the access rights as they need it.
If either the Beneficiary(ies) or the Contracting Authority carries out or commissions an evaluation in the course of the Action, it shall provide the other with a copy of the evaluation report.
